Two New Reading Strategies

This shows our "Reading Salad". We talked about how reading a book is like a salad. We modeled the correct way of reading. We then discussed that there should be more green lettuce (Thinking) while reading than red tomatoes (Text).

We focused again on thinking about what we read. The kids LOVED this.

Research Project

In class, we are beginning to research different animals and then write about them. Students helped to create a list of animals that began with different letters from the alphabet. Then, I brought in books to help them with their animal. They are reading to gain information. Then, they had to pick and copy two facts about their animal to include in our class book.

Math Workstations

We have began workstations in Math. Students are taught in a whole group setting. Then, we break into smaller groups so that students may receive more direct instruction. This allows me to meet the needs of all my students. While I am doing small groups, students are challenged by working in Math Stations. They really love these!

Nutrition Program

We were able to attend a school nutrition program. This program focused on eating healthy both at home and at school. It engaged the children in discussions about what to choose for lunch at school.

Noun Scavenger Hunt

Here are some pictures of our Noun Hunt. We went throughout the school with our clipboards and pencils on the search for Nouns. We saw many great things that we discussed in the room. The children seemed to learn a lot from this activity. Please ask your child to tell you more about nouns at home. They should be able to define and list an example of each type of noun. (For example: person, place, animal, or thing) Sorry that the pictures aren't the best! We were writing and walking.
